Fantasy Hockey Scouts: The Fantasy Five - Week 16

#1 Give 'em a Look

If you’re in need of a solid dman then give Joe Corvo a look as the Hurricanes blueliner is surprisingly available in a lot of leagues right now... maybe people haven’t caught on to the fact that he has 1+13=14 over his last 15 games (10 PPPs). We like him as he’s one of the coach’s favourites, logging a ton of ice-time (24 mpg with nearly four mpg on the PP) and he’s consistently produced throughout his career. He’s on pace for 42 points this year and this would be the fifth time in the past six seasons that he’s had at least 37 points... what’s not to like?

Others worth a look: Scott Gomez (Mtl – C), Mats Zuccarello (NYR - W), PK Subban (Mtl – D) and Grant Clitsome (Clb – D)

#2 Give 'em the Boot

The Panthers former 3rd overall pick, Nathan Horton, was not dealt from Florida last summer because he lacked talent, it was more to do with his attitude and lapses in motivation. People had hoped that a change of scenery and being surrounded by talent in Boston would change his ways but despite a strong start (8+10=18 in his first 17 games), he’s been in a funk for the past couple months and has only managed 4+6=10 over his last 31 games. With Marc Savard out injured and Krejci & Bergeron clicking with other wingers, Horton is the going to have to dig himself out of this hole... if he feels like it.

Others worth a boot: Tim Connolly (Buf – C), Kristian Huselius (Clb – LW), Zach Bogosian (Atl - D) and Craig Anderson (Col – G)

#3 Injury Concerns

A few major ones over the past week... out of nowhere we lost Tomas Fleischmann for the season due to a blog clot in his lung, then Marc Savard suffered another concussion and who knows how long he’ll be out and then Thursday we learned that Alex Edler is out indefinitely as he’ll need back surgery... to the wire for re-enforcements you go.

#4 Crease Conflicts

Some of you may not care about who is in the net for the Islanders and I don’t really blame you but there are others that are desperate for a goalie and will take whatever they can get. First, there’s the Evgeni Nabokov situation as the Islanders claimed him on waivers from the Red Wings but he has decided he doesn’t want to play on Long Island and refuses to report. This could end up going many different ways but we wouldn’t be surprised if he has a change of heart and eventually shows up (although that’s still not a great situation for fantasy GMs). Meanwhile, Rick DiPietro and Kevin Poulin have been minding the net with DiPietro looking pretty awful all season whereas the 20-year-old Poulin has been solid with a 2.59 gaa & .925 sv% through his first seven NHL games. Take a look at Poulin if you’re in dire need of a goalie but the rest of us will likely pass on this situation altogether.

#5 Hit the Links

In general, we like to direct you to some fantasy hockey websites or articles that maybe you haven’t seen or heard of before... well this week we couldn’t find any of those so we figured you might like this different spin that we took over at Fantasy Hockey Scouts on a few players that might be able to help you during the 2nd half of the season... we call it the 2nd Half Draft.
