Lukas Kaspar was drafted 22nd overall in the first round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the San Jose Sharks. Originally from Most, Czech Republic, he spent the 2004-05 season in the OHL with the Ottawa 67’s, where he produced 51 points in 59 games. He then signed a three-year entry-level contract with the San Jose Sharks and spent the next two seasons (2005-2007) in the AHL with the Cleveland Barons and the Worcester Sharks, respectively. He spent most of the 2007-08 season with Worcester, but also played three games with the San Jose Sharks, including his NHL debut on October 29th against the Dallas Stars. He then re-signed with San Jose to a one-year contract during the off-season. He scored his first NHL goal, the game-winner, on October 12, 2008 against Jason LaBarbera of the Los Angeles Kings. In July 2009, he signed as a free agent with the Philadelphia Flyers to a two-year contract. His contract was later terminated by the Flyers and he eventually signed with Karpat in Finland’s top ranked hockey league in November 2009. In international hockey, he represented the Czech Republic at the 2004 and 2005 (bronze medal) World Junior Championships. At 6’2 and around 220 pounds, Kaspar can play either wing position.
