Petr Sykora

Petr Sykora was a first-round pick of the New Jersey Devils, 18th overall, in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. Among that draft class, only Jarome Iginla has scored more points in the NHL. Sykora began his NHL career in 1995 with the New Jersey Devils. As part of the A Line with Patrik Elias and Jason Arnott, he helped lead the team to the 1999-2000 Stanley Cup championship, and was a game away from winning a second Cup in 2001. That year, Sykora set career highs in goals (35), assists (46), and points (81). Sykora was traded to the Anaheim Ducks in 2002. He was instrumental in carrying the Mighty Ducks to the Stanley Cup Finals the following year, when they lost to the Devils and his former teammates. Sykora scored the game-winning overtime goal in the fourth-longest playoff game in NHL history on April 24, 2003. Sykora was then traded to the Rangers briefly in January of 2006. He played 40 games there before being traded to the Edmonton Oilers for the 2006-2007 season. On the Oilers, Sykora played in all 82 games and scored 53 points (22 goals and 31 assists). Sykora has the ability to play on a scoring line and put up some good numbers. The knock on him is that he is not a very creative player but rather needs to be put into the right situation to produce. In July 2007, Sykora signed a 2 year contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins as an unrestricted free agent.
