Mike Green
Mike Green was born in Calgary, Alberta, and began his career playing for the Saskatoon Blades in the WHL. He put up solid numbers for the club, scoring 66 points in his final season with the club in 2004-2005. Green was drafted by the Washington Capitals, 29th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He headed to the Hershey Bears in the AHL and put in a 43-point year with the team in 2005-2006. Green debuted for the Capitals in the 2005-2006 NHL season and played 22 games. He finished with 3 points that season and was sent back down to the Hershey Bears for 12 games in 2006-2007. That same year, Green spent the majority of his time with the Capitals in the NHL. He played in 70 games and finished with 12 points. Green is a great skater that uses his frame effectively to play the game. He’s primarily an offensive defenseman, but can be used in all situations in the game. Green is somewhat mistake-prone in the defensive zone and needs a bit more polish on his skills. He also needs to shoot the puck more. Green will likely become and remain a top-four defenseman for the majority of his career.
