Joe Pavelski
Joe Pavelski was born in Plover, Wisconsin, and played his high school hockey for Stevens Point in Wisconsin. He was a star player in high school and helped his team gain respectability. Pavelski helped Waterloo of the USHL come back to respectability, too, in the 2002-2003 season and was named a USHL First-Team All-Star. He led Waterloo in all offensive categories and finished fourth overall in USHL scoring that year. Pavelski also played well in the playoffs with Waterloo. All of this great playing caught the eye of San Jose Sharks scouts and he was drafted in 2003, 205th overall. Pavelski headed to the University of Wisconsin and had two good seasons there, finishing in 2005-2006 with 53 points in 41 games. He headed for the AHL Worcester Sharks this past year and debuted with San Jose in the 2006-2007 season with 46 games. In those games, Pavelski scored 28 points, including 14 goals and 14 assists. He is a solid two-way player with lots of hockey sense. Pavelski tends to struggle a bit with his skating, according to most reports, and could use some conditioning with his game. He’ll be a nice package player for the Sharks in time, but will likely benefit from more time in the AHL for growth before he’s given too much responsibility. Pavelski needs more speed, too.
