Boyd Gordon
Boyd Gordon was born in Unity, Saskatchewan, and began his career playing for the Red Deer Rebels of the WHL. He enjoyed his best season in the 2002-2003 season with the Rebels, scoring 81 points in 56 regular season games and adding a playoff performance in which he scored 20 points in 23 games. Gordon was drafted by the Washington Capitals in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft and went 17th overall. He reported to the Caps for the 2003-2004 season for 41 games and scored 6 points. Gordon was dispatched also to the Portland Pirates of the AHL for 43 games that season, where he also helped the team during the playoffs. He played the entire lockout season with the Pirates as well and enjoyed a fairly successful year, playing alongside several of his Washington teammates. Gordon rejoined the Capitals after the lockout and played 25 games for the club, registering an assist. He was sent to the Hershey Bears of the AHL for 58 games, too, and also helped the Bears in their playoff drive. Gordon was racking up experience throughout the minors and played his first full season with the Capitals in 2006-2007. He finished 71 games with 29 points, including 7 goals and 22 assists. Gordon is a good winger that is versatile enough to line up at center. He’ll need more experience to prove himself, but he could round out to be a nice two-way player.
