Alex Tanguay
Alex Tanguay was drafted 12th overall in the first round of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche. He started playing for the Avalanche in 1999 and played for them until 2006. Tanguay won the Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2001. He was a big part of the young energy that Colorado had at the time and played most of the season with Milan Hedjuk, forming a dangerous partnership.
On June 24, 2006, during the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Tanguay was traded to the Calgary Flames for Jordan Leopold, a second-round pick, and a conditional draft pick in either 2007 or 2008. On the flames, he plays mostly with Jarome Iginla. Tanguay is a great playmaker and is able to dish the push to streaking wingers better than many seasoned pros. With a long career ahead of him, the outlook on Alex Tanguay is very good. He has speed and good stick skills that help him force the puck to the right player, even through loads of traffic. Tanguay also have offensive skills that make him a dangerous goal scorer.
Tanguay played most of his minor league career with the Halifax Mooseheads, with his best season coming in 1997-1998 when he had 85 points in 51 games (47 goals and 38 assists). This past season in Calgary saw Tanguay notch 81 points in 81 games, with 22 goals and 59 assists.
He has great instincts for the game and tremendous one-on-one skills, making many defenders look foolish. With great support in Calgary, expect Tanguay to have one heck of a season.
