Eric Fehr was drafted 18th overall in the first round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Washington Capitals. The Winkler, Manitoba native played four full seasons in the WHL with the Brandon Wheat Kings, with his best year being in 2004-05, where he led the league with 59 goals in 71 games. He then had a league-leading 32 points in 24 playoff games, where the Wheat Kings lost in the WHL finals to the Kelowna Rockets. That same year, he won the Bobby Clarke Trophy as the league’s top scorer with 111 points, along with the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy for the league’s Most Valuable Player and was named to the WHL East First All-Star Team. He signed a three-year entry-level contract with Washington in July and played in 11 games with the Capitals during the 2005-06 season, including his NHL debut on December 18th against the Florida Panthers. He spent the rest of the season with their AHL team, the Hershey Bears, who he helped win the 2006 Calder Cup. He scored his first NHL goal the following season on January 27, 2007 against the Carolina Hurricanes. After being off for around 10 months due to a back injury, he returned to the NHL in February 2008 and later signed a one-year contract with the Capitals in July. He played his first entire NHL season in 2008-09, where he set career-highs in games played (61), goals (12), assists (13) and points (25). He then signed another one-year contract with them during the off-season. Fehr displays good offensive skills and continues to improve his overall game. At 6’4 and around 210 pounds, this right winger could use his large frame to play a more physical game, however at the same time, make sure he remains injury-free.
