Dennis Wideman
Dennis Wideman was born in Kitchener, Ontario, and began his career playing for the Sudbury Wolves in 1999. He spent parts of two seasons with the Wolves before heading to the London Knights. Wideman spent parts of four years playing for the London Knights and was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres, 241st overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He headed to the AHL Worcester IceCats for the 2004-2005 season and played 12 games for the Peoria Rivermen the following season. Wideman was eventually called up and played 67 regular season games for the St. Louis Blues in the 2005-2006 season. He finished that season with 67 points. Wideman started the next season with the Blues, but finished with the Boston Bruins. He'll start the upcoming NHL season with the Bruins. Wideman is a defenseman with great puck skills that can be a tremendous asset with the man advantage. He's a great powerplay quarterback that may lead the charge in Boston this season. Wideman isn't that physical, however, and the knock on him is that he may be a little too soft for his position. He also struggles overall in defensive zone coverage and may lose his man in the shuffle from time to time. Wideman is also prone to making defensive mistakes and can cough the puck up at the wrong time, leading to giveaways. He is a potential power play specialist that will need to iron out the defensive aspect of his game to get more ice time.
