Brian Pothier
Brian Pothier was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, and played for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the NCAA league to start his career. He went undrafted, but was signed by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 1999-2000 NHL season. Pothier spent that year with the Rensselaer Polytechnic squad, then moved to the Orlando Solar Bears of the IHL for the following season. He put up solid numbers there, including scoring 41 points in 76 regular season games and making a valuable playoff contribution as well. Pothier played three games with the Thrashers that season as well and would split the next season with the Thrashers and the Chicago Wolves of the AHL. 2002-2003 saw him sent to the Ottawa Senators, where he started out playing for the Binghamton Senators of the AHL before playing up in Ottawa with the Sens. Pothier played all of the 2003-2004 season in Ottawa, scoring 8 points in 55 regular season games and seeing action in 7 playoff games. He spent the lockout year with Binghamton and then returned to the Senators for the 2005-2006 NHL season. Pothier impressed with 35 points in 77 regular season games and had a good playoff performance that year, too, adding 3 points (including 2 goals) in 8 playoff games. He was signed by the Washington Capitals in the summer of 2006 and put up solid numbers there in the 2006-2007 season, finishing with 28 points in 72 regular season games. Pothier is a talented defenseman with a good offensive upside. He is capable of leading rushes and quarterbacking powerplays and is also defensively responsible.
