Emery Out 6 Weeks

At the risk of having this blog called on an apparent “Flyers bias” by someone with too much time on his hands, it looks as though Philadelphia’s problems are going from bad to worse.

Goalie Ray Emery will undergo surgery to repair an abdominal tear and will be out of action for around six weeks. Emery boasted a 2.81 GAA in 21 games and included one shutout and a .901 save percentage. He was certainly a bright spot for the Flyers and answered his critics as to how his performance would be in the future.

But now it looks like the Ray Emery Comeback Project is on hold for a while.

Philly dropped its fifth straight on Monday in losing to the Habs and certainly could use a few positives at this point and time, but this Emery situation can’t be doing anybody any favours. Under new coach Peter Laviolette, the Flyers have lost two straight and have clearly not changed much on the ice even after the departure of John Stevens.

Brian Boucher will assume the starting job in net, with the 28-year-old Johan Backlund playing backup. Backlund joins the Flyers from Adirondack in the AHL.

Early favourites to challenge for the Cup, the Flyers are now looking like the basement is the only place they belong. This recent news will be another blow to an already struggling club and will truly test the resolve of each player on the team. Who will step up to take a leadership role on the ice? Who, if anyone, can turn this sinking ship around?

No, your blogs aren’t just about the Flyers
Although I do enjoy discussion my favorite team,
I know you write about important issues in Hockey
It is obvious they have some things happening ( The Flyers ) that are news worthy
And yes those who understand hockey would agree what is hot stove needs to talked about.
You have my vote of confidence Jordan, and if you feel the need to talk about the Leafs It’s OK.
I am joking I am not trying to get some people upset, but it was very sad to see someone harass you, the work you do is amazing don’t stop it.
Some people can’t help it when they talk so empty.

    Yes,
Losing Emery is a tough one
Because of the compressed schedule he could miss up to 25 games
He will certainly be rested come playoff time
The question is can Boucher hold the fort?
The Flyers looked good (lots of energy) against the habs and lost 3-1
continued with the same energy against those Islanders
and played like the team I saw earlier in the season.
Is it a prelude of things to come?
If so Boucher will play his role effective enough
and he wont be an eye soar
So far when I have watched boucher he has been better than Birion or Nittymaki
Those two cats were at times great, then I think they were both smoking something that would effect their judgment.
Boucher just plays a simple effective game.
Once the team fully finds themselves playing the Lavliotee system and some injured players come back ( Gagne, Betts, And Powe we will see the team many people picked to win the cup.

Most teams get into a funk during the regular season.
Except San Jose they wait for the playoffs
Look at Detroit and Anaheim I know they will be playing better by the end of this year.
All Philly needs to do is stay focused, stay disciplined and shoot that puck
That formula will help stay in the playoff race
Come playoff time anything can happen just ask Carolina they beat Jersey and Boston.
