Daniel Sedin Slated for Sunday Return

The Vancouver Canucks have sent winger Matt Pettinger to their AHL affiliate club, thus making room for the return of one Daniel Sedin to the line-up. The expectation is that Sedin will be able to join the rest of the team on the ice Sunday night as the Canucks face off against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Daniel has been out 18 games since his foot was broken by a teammate’s shot in the fourth game of the season on Oct. 7. The injury left a big hole in the line-up, as he had led the Canucks in scoring in each of the last three seasons.

His brother Henrik more than picked up the slack, however, notching 18 points without Daniel including 10 goals. He’s tied for tenth in NHL scoring with 24 points, but Vancouver will be more than happy to have the two twins reunited.

“They’re still good players when they’re not with one another. Hank has proved that,” head coach Alain Vignault said. “But, obviously, I believe they’re better together.”

Fans in Vancouver know that the Sedin twins have formed the offensive core of the club for quite some time now. Since being drafted together second and third overall in 1999, the Sedins have played most of their careers on the same line and have been responsible for production in the point-a-game range.

The injury to Daniel marked one of the first real tests to the twins as separate players and Henrik more than rose to the challenge.
