Luckily, Ovechkin saw it at the last minute, if Richards hit him, Mike would have certainly faced suspension, and the league would have lost one of it's best for a extended period of time. Never really watched the Mitchell hit so I can't say much But here is what is it is all about, RESPECT Scott Stevens was probably one of greatest for being relentless If a guy was vulnerable it seemed to push him more, I remember Lindros, Kariya, Francis, etc.... So Equipment that is the easiest, and Maybe the instigator, just that protective measure to protect a team mate. And the referees given that option to punish when they feel it's deemed fit. It is a start, and as the game changes, so do the players. As a result the rules need to follow. A change in the equipment could help
