Eric Lindros’ New Role
Eric Lindros was one of five NHL players associated with the hiring of new NHLPA executive director Paul Kelly. He worked several hours at ironing out the best candidate for the job and certainly seems dedicated to his role in the NHLPA at this point. But will he play hockey again in the NHL?
That seems to be a loaded question, as countless sports news shows and websites have pondered over Lindros’ comments yesterday and are assuming that the Big E will, in all likelihood, announce his formal retirement from the game.
The new NHLPA constitution has a position for an ombudsman and it is likely that Lindros will be the top draw for that position. The 34-year-old Lindros is said to be excited about learning this new aspect of the game and is excited about the possibility of working in any capacity with the NHLPA.
“It’s been exciting, I’ve learned a lot, I’ve met a lot of interesting people and I think today caps it off with finding the best person for leading our players,” Lindros told reporters after Paul Kelly’s hiring.
While there obviously has been no formal announcement, most assumptions from the critics and pundits around the league are pointing in the direction of Lindros’ retirement. One thing is for certain, however. The Big E is certainly proving to be a nice fit in the business end of the game and is a worthy advocate for the players through his work in the NHLPA.
